ASTA to Host Webinar on TSA PreCheck Program Jul 21st 2013, 19:18
ASTA has commended the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) for opening a new avenue into its PreCheck airport screening program and will host a webinar for members on the program. The webinar will take place Aug. 7 and will focus on the various ways clients can enroll in PreCheck and other trusted traveler programs, as well as where the program is being implemented and when, and the steps to through the GDSs and online booking tools to guarantee clients a hassle-free flying experience.
TSA’s goal is to process 25 percent of individual travelers through expedited screening by the end of the year. To that end, starting later this year, U.S. citizens will be able to apply for PreCheck online and visit an enrollment site to provide identification and fingerprints.
TSA will start the program at two initial enrollment sites – Washington Dulles International Airport and Indianapolis International Airport – with plans to expand to additional enrollment sites nationwide. The PreCheck application program requires a background check, fingerprints and an anticipated enrollment fee of $85 for a five-year membership. Once approved, each traveler will receive a Known Traveler Number and the opportunity to go through PreCheck lanes at security checkpoints at participating airports.
Previously, to be eligible for PreCheck, travelers had to opt in through an airline’s frequent flier program or be enrolled in one of Customs and Border Protection’s Global Entry, SENTRI or NEXUS Trusted Traveler programs. Both Airlines for America (A4A) and the U.S. Travel Association have also applauded the TSA for expanding PreCheck.
